Day 19 ~ March SOLSC
My mom didn’t go away without us or my dad often. The first time I remember her going away without my dad was when my brother and I were teenagers. Maybe she figured by then we could all take care of ourselves, so it was ok for her to leave us and go enjoy herself. She definitely deserved it. Well, my brother and I handled her being away totally fine. My dad on the other hand, not so much…
“Jen, are there any clean white clothes downstairs in the basement?”
“I’m not sure Dad. I’ll go check for you.”
Down to the basement I go – don’t see any clean clothes neatly folded in a basket.
“Nope, Dad. Nothing down here,” I call up to him. “Bring down your laundry and I’ll put it in the wash for you.”
“Nah that’s ok. I got it.”
Wow, Dad is going to take care of his own laundry!? I don’t know if I should be excited or worried. I’ve never seen him do laundry. Mom always does it – taking such good care of him and our family. This should be fun. I sure hope he doesn’t break her machine!
I get home later on that day, and see a shopping bag laying on the boot box behind our couch. I peek in. I can’t contain myself and start to laugh hysterically. He hears me laughing from the kitchen.
“What’s so funny?”
“You went to the store and bought new underwear and undershirts?!?! (laughing so hard I’m crying) Mom is going to love this!”
He shrugged his shoulders, smiled, and sat down to read the paper – business as usual. I just continued giggling. He took care of his laundry alright!
I’m participating in the March Slice of Life Story Challenge! Thank you to the team of writers at Two Writing Teachers for this wonderful writing community. A place for us to grow together as writers.
