Day 2 – March SOLSC
I grab my towel and make my way to the treadmills. 2 rows of treadmills lined up facing each other. Only a few are occupied. Guess this means I won’t have to wait for one. So much for thinking I’d just go right back to my favorite elliptical machine. Why do I need to learn how to use this machine anyway? Oh, because I signed up for a 5K, and have to get running.
I walk around once, twice. You know what? I think I should stretch first before getting on this machine. Down onto the mat I go, stretching out those hamstrings.
Ok, this is ridiculous. It’s just a treadmill. If I can work the other machines, then I can work this. Only it’s not the “working” that I’m afraid of. It’s. The. Belt.
I stand at the foot of the machine, and slowly step onto the non-moving belt that is giving me anxiety! I put my water bottle and phone down. The ear buds are in, and I press play on my work out mix. Music starts, but not the belt yet.
Just press the green button already! It’s not like the belt is going to start up at a fast speed and throw me off. (oh my goodness, can that happen?!?) Ok, ok, here I go.
I push the green button and the belt s-l-o-w-l-y starts to move. Oh I can handle this. I push the arrow to make it go a little faster, and a little faster, and one more push to set it at a perfect speed. Before I know it, I’m at a nice walking pace, just marching along to my music. After a few minutes, I work up my courage to increase the speed a little bit more. And, there I go, jogging along with my music playing and my ponytail swaying.
That treadmill isn’t so scary after all.
