It’s been awhile…#celebratelu

Every week Ruth Ayres extends an invitation to share a celebration. What a great way to focus on something to celebrate!

I haven’t written in a long, long time.  What better way to jump back into it than to find something to celebrate!  Life just tends to take over when you let it, and I’m pretty sure that’s why I haven’t written and posted to my blog.  And, to be quite honest, I’m not even sure I’ve been making the time to focus on all the good in my life either.

So tonight, I celebrate determination.  I’m not even sure determination is the exact word I’m looking for, but it’s the first one that popped in to my head watching my husband and daughter today.

I’m blessed to have my own handyman.  He doesn’t always have time to do “big” projects, but even the little ones are amazing.  We have spent some time surfing Pinterest for DIY ideas for our house and since we don’t currently have a coffee table, Brad thought it was time to get one.  And by get one, he meant build a coffee table.  Off to Lowe’s we went to buy material, and I did a little supervising when he first started.  I just watched how he worked.  The look on his face, the sweat, the back and forth to get materials.  All I saw was joy and determination.  The “do it yourself” projects make him think of his grandpa and he really enjoys making things.  Joy and determination!

Now, my little girl.  She might be the face of determination on a regular basis, but I usually lean more towards calling it stubborn!  But this weekend, her ability to be determined paid off.  Ever since she was about 5, we’ve tried to get her to learn to ride a bike.  Haven’t had much luck.  She’s been too scared, or it’s too hard.  On Tuesday, she will be 8, and much to our surprise, she asked for a bike for her birthday.  This weekend we took her to pick out a bike as an early birthday gift.  The second we got home, she put on her helmet and was ready to go.  I will admit that I was a little worried she was going to give up.  The complete opposite happened.  She got right on that bike (no training wheels) and just started to pedal.  Within seconds, she was riding her bike.  She fell once while trying to turn, got a few scrapes, but got up and back on the bike.   In just 3 short days she’s become more comfortable, pedals a little faster, works the brakes better, and her turns have improved.  She did it when she was ready.  Determination!
