Day 8 – SOLSC #sol17
The weather I woke up to this morning inspired me to write a poem. I decided to try this “outside, inside” structure for this poem. I had this structure used by another Slicer on their blog and bookmarked as a mentor text. (Click here to see that post)
Stormy Morning
Outside, wind is howling, dancing with the tree tops.
Inside, we are still, listening, laying in bed, warm and cozy.
Outside, rain is pouring, beating against the windows.
Inside, the quiet sounds of coffee dripping and the news humming in the background signals the day has begun.
Outside, it is dark and gloomy.
Inside it is warm and cozy. Sipping coffee, snuggled in blankets.
Outside it is raining, birds are singing
Inside we quietly tiptoe around, getting ready for our day, careful not to wake the little one just yet.
Outside it is calm. The wind and rain have died down and the sky is brightening.
Inside it is busy. Everyone’s awake – the morning chaos is in full swing. Get showered, Get dressed, brush your teeth, put your shoes on, hurry up, let’s go – Don’t forget your lunch!
Can’t we just stay in our comfy beds on this gloomy day?
This works beautifully! I love the way the simple repeated structure helps to tell the story of inside and outside. Lovely.

Oh, it’s gloomy here in Boston, too, so thank you for this. Love this Inside/Outside structure. Will have to try this. Now let’s go back to bed! 🙂

What a cozy post! How nice to enjoy those moments of snuggling, appreciating nature and the roof over your head, protecting you from the elements. Hope your day went well despite the rain!

I love how this structure works to tell the story of your morning! My favorite outside/inside comparison is “Outside, rain is pouring, beating against the windows.
Inside, the quiet sounds of coffee dripping and the news humming in the background signals the day has begun.”
I love how the coffee dripping echoes the rain pouring! Great images!
