I’m a complete newbie to the Slice of Life community. I’ve never actually written a slice and posted it. Instead of starting out small with the Tuesday Slice of Life stories, I have decided to dive right in with the Slice of Life Story Challenge 2017! I’m nervous, excited, and a little bit shocked.
Of course, I’m left with some lingering questions….
How in the world am I going to be able to do this every day? March is a crazy month. Report cards are due, after school meetings and parent teacher conferences scheduled, taking my daughter to karate class, making dinner, laundry, and the list just keeps going and going. How am I ever going to find things to write about for an entire month? Why didn’t I start small and give the Tuesday Slice a try? That probably would’ve been much easier and less stressful.
With all of these questions and doubts running through my mind, I can’t help but reflecting and thinking about why I chose to do this. I never liked writing as a kid. I never thought I was good at it, my papers would be returned with red marks all over them, and I ended up dreading any kind of writing assignment. Ironically, it’s my most favorite subject to teach my first graders. I know that in order to become a better teacher of writing for my kiddos, I need to be a writer myself. So, here I am, diving into this challenge, and beginning to live a writerly life.
